Tips for Accessing / Using Course Reserve
Items
The purpose of a Reserve Collection is to make available, to as
many students as possible, materials that are in heavy demand. Items
placed on reserve are usually assigned course readings or materials.
Therefore items in the physical reserve collection are subject to limited loan periods and
strictly enforced policies. Loan periods are determined by the faculty and may vary from item to item,
but in general they are approximately two-hours, four-hours, or twenty-four
hours. Overdue fines are charged on physical reserve items that are not
returned by the time due.
ONLINE RESERVE ITEMS:
Online reserve items are available in the
ERes
database. Search by course number or name, instructor name, or department to find the online
reserve list for a class. At the default screen enter the course id (e.g.:
govt151, which is generally the abbreviation of the department followed by the course number.)
To get publisher permission to process articles for online use, access is
restricted to students in the class by password. Obtain the password for your class
from your professor or from a librarian.
Please note: in order to access ERes from an off-campus computer, you may
need to configure the Web browser to enable 'cookies' to connect to the Wesleyan proxy server
(see instructions for
configuring your browser).
READING MATERIAL ONLINE:
It the text is too small, use the magnifier icon to increase the size of the
image.
Readings that are sideways can be rotated at the time of reading. There are
icons to rotate the page clockwise or counterclockwise. The icon is a page with
a corner turned down in addition to a quarter of a circle arrow pointing to a
lightened image of another page. If the icon is not visible, expand the icons
available on the tool bar, or the version of Adobe Acrobat Reader might have to
be updated.
PHYSICAL RESERVE ITEMS:
Physical reserves are listed under the
Course Reserve Tab of the online Wesleyan Library Catalog. You may search
by instructor and/or course. If your instructor is teaching multiple
courses, or if there is more than one section of the same course being taught by
different professors, search by using both instructor and course to find only your
instructor's list of readings.
The record for each item on reserve will indicate from which reserve desk the
item may be borrowed. Each of the Wesleyan Libraries has its own Reserve Desk. The
Olin Reserve Collection is located on the main floor, along the west
corridor, in room 116. In the Art, Music, and Science Libraries, reserve materials may be obtained at the circulation
desk.
